The fun continues tonight with the last weekend of Forest O'Fears: The Haunting at Cedar Lane! Grab your tickets now for the last two nights of Halloween fun, including the infamous Haunted House and Trail of Horror with field games for the whole family, tonight and tomorrow night, October 25th and 26th. There will also be tasty treats courtesy of some local food vendors -- this weekend, we will be joined by Road Grub, Sloppie Joe's, Homestyle Bakery (donuts and cider are key to a successful Halloween experience), Salsa Fresca and Sing Sing Kill Brewery, who will be serving locally brewed suds for the 21+ crowd. The mostly volunteer team behind this production has been hard at work to put on an excellent event. All proceeds above and beyond the costs to run the event this year will go to the SPCA of Westchester, so don't miss the opportunity to support a local non-profit while enjoying a spooky October evening with family and friends at Cedar Lane Park.

The month of October is traditionally one of our busiest, and this week, we did not stop moving!
Out on the road, our Highway Department has been hard at work preparing for the paving at Haymount Terrace and Studio Hill Road.
Using our annual bidder for paving, our Highway Superintendent worked closely with our Engineering Team to make sure that all issues were addressed, including some specific drainage concerns and plans to restripe once the job has been completed.
We do not yet know when the contractor will be starting the actual paving, but it should go quickly now that our guys have it all ready. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

Budget season officially kicked off this week in the Town of Ossining! Budget Director Maddi Zachacz and Deputy Comptroller Dale Ferreira joined me as we met with each department head to review and discuss their budget requests for 2020. It was a great opportunity to reflect on our progress in 2019, and plan ahead for 2020. All of our departments have so much planned for the new year, we are very excited to start sharing these new programs, offerings, and projects with our residents!
At our Town Board Work Session this past Tuesday, we heard from the Ossining branch of the NAACP and discussed how we can work together to educate the public on hate crimes and symbols of hate in an effort to ensure that these horrific instances have no place in our community. This was an essential conversation to have, and we look forward to working together in the future to establish a task force that can come up with an ongoing plan of action to ensure Ossining is safe and welcoming to all.
Earlier that evening, I had the opportunity to join Westchester County Legislator Catherine Borgia, the Westchester County Department of Planning, and the Village of Ossining for a Town Hall discussion on the 2020 Census. It was an excellent opportunity to learn more about the process for 2020 and why it is so important to ensure an accurate count. Our Census count determines so much on the federal level, including our representation to Congress and funding allocations – yes, including school district funding. The Town looks forward to being a partner in this process and we will share more information about how we can all help to ensure an accurate count when the Census kicks off next spring.

The countdown is ON! School tax payments for anyone living in the Ossining or Briarcliff Manor school districts are due by close of business on Monday, September 30th. If you still need to pay, the Tax Office will be open extended hours on Monday the 30th (8AM to 6PM), you can pay online, or make use of the designated mail slot at the Ossining Post Office (if you get it there before 5PM, it will be postmarked for the current day and sent right to our office). By law, we cannot waive penalties on late payments, no matter the reason, so please plan ahead!
This continues to be a busy time for our office, as we are heading into budget season AND finishing up our Discrimination and Harassment Training. Working with our insurance company (NYMIR), we have created a distinct login for each of our employees to complete the interactive training online. During an impromptu visit to the Highway Department on Tuesday, we stumbled upon Superintendent Connolly completing his training, and he was gracious enough to share his score... 100%!
