Does anyone else remember a few days ago when it was 60 degrees and sunny? That was nice.
We are really up against it with this weather. All over Ossining (and, really, Westchester), there have been reports of blown transformers and power outages, along with downed trees and power lines. We know that Con Ed has extra crews working through this, so if you are suffering from an outage, please know that teams are working to get you up and running. It seems that the worst of the precipitation is behind us, but the wind is expected to continue through the early morning tomorrow. Please make sure all your devices are charged, and download the Con Ed app on your tablet or smartphone. Their interactive outage map continues to improve and will show you real-time information about outages and expected restoration times in your neighborhood. If you need to report an outage, call 1-800-75-CONED.
In the meantime, please help our first responders and stay off of the roads to the extent possible. If you see a downed power line, avoid it and dial 911. Make sure that you observe the parking rules that apply in your neighborhood, and be sure to check on your elderly neighbors if possible. We are great at pulling together during times like these, so hopefully before we know it, the sun will be shining again.

With all the weather ups and downs this week, it's hard to believe that we are closing out the month of February! If you're like me, the heat wave earlier this week was a happy reminder that spring is on its way. Since we last spoke, I participated in the "Escape from Sing Sing Polar Plunge" this past Saturday at Louis Engel Park. This great event, organized by Gullotta House, raised several thousand dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and we had a blast too! Special thanks to Matt Gullotta and his team for bringing such a cool (yes) event to our community, to Dr. Gareth Hougham PhD of Hudson Valley Arts and Sciences for lending his expertise to Gullotta House and assisting with logistics, and to 6 Degrees of Separation for a warm (yes) reception after the "plunge" was complete!

What a romantic week we've had here at 16 Croton-- everyone has been wearing various shades of pink and red since Tuesday, even some of the guys! Did you manage to pick something up for your honey at the Floral Shop Pop-Up on Main Street? Ashley Drago had some beautiful arrangements if you got there early enough-- she was practically sold out before noon on both Tuesday and Wednesday! Ashley is a recent Ossining transplant doing beautiful work, and we are fortunate to have her talents here in our community.
I started off my Valentine's Day at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center, where the Ossining High School National Honor Society hosted many of our regulars from the Senior Nutrition Program at their annual Senior Citizens Valentine's Day Breakfast. Our senior sweethearts were treated to musical performances from all the schools in the District, and we had a great time singing along-- I especially liked Skidamarink-a-dink by the Park School Chorus. Thanks go to the Village of Ossining Parks and Recreation Department for helping to set up and break down the room for such a fun party!

As I am writing this, there is a little snow falling from the sky... wouldn't be the first time this week! We got a few inches of snow and ice Wednesday morning and our trucks were out salting and plowing to keep the roads as clear as possible. We made it through the storm without much trouble, but it is still a bit slippery in spots. Take your time getting around Town!
Our storm preparations were made public on Tuesday afternoon, when reporters from News 12 came to visit the Town of Ossining Highway Department.
Our Superintendent of Highways Michael G. O'Connor was interviewed, and the crews got some footage of some of our guys loading the trucks. If you see our Highway guys around Town, please, no autographs. They're very shy.

The day we had been dreading finally arrived this week-- our Highway Foreman Johnny Martin and MEO Rick Planamenta worked their last day for the Town of Ossining. We didn't get the big snowstorm that was predicted at first, but it did flurry a bit in their honor. Maddi and I stopped by around lunchtime to bring cupcakes to the guys and say our final "see ya later" to Johnny and Rick.
We got them talking about their first day on the job with the Town (which, as you may recall, was somewhere around 30 years ago), and to think of the institutional knowledge that those guys have, there are big shoes to fill. Luckily, both guys are only a call away and we know we will see them soon, but boy, will we miss these faces!
