Supervisor's Update- July 13th, 2018

Tonight's concert is going to be a great one-- have you heard of Taj Weekes? Taj, originally from St. Lucia, comes with a set of original reggae music and with a positive message about social responsibility and human rights-- check him out here. Come join us at Engel Park at 7PM and be inspired-- I am really looking forward to hearing Taj and his band play live.

Supervisor's Update- July 6th, 2018

Another soggy day in Ossining! We have seen more than our fair share of rain over the past few days (we shouldn't complain, the grass really needs it) and are feeling a bit blue. However, that sun is moving in, and tonight's Waterfront Concert is still on! Join us at Louis Engel Waterfront Park for an evening of smooth jazz stylings with Ossining's own Soul Projekt. This local favorite always puts on a great show, and we are looking forward to a great night at the waterfront. Just FYI, blankets may not cut it tonight, the grass is a little slippery, so bring chairs if you got em! I have been craving fries from Gyro Uno all day long, so you will likely find me at the truck for at least part of the evening.

Since we've spoken last, we had two more fantastic nights at Engel Park. Last Friday evening, we were joined by Out After Curfew as part of our Summer Concert Series-- they played to a crowd of about 200, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect.

That is, until Tuesday night, when we celebrated Independence Day at the waterfront. All day long, scattered theunderstorms and torrential rain had us on edge, with threats of more to come right around showtime. However, whatever ugly weather was coming our way blew out to sea and we ended the day with a stunning sunset-- despite what we thought might happen because of the iffy weather, we had a record-breaking crowd for the fireworks. Between the great Jon Bates Band, an incredible assortment of food trucks and tents, so many friends, old and new, and a solar powered merry-go-round, there was truly something for everyone leading up to and following the great light show in the sky. What a fantastic night! My heartfelt thanks go out to Town and Village Parks crews, the Ossining Police Department, the Ossining Fire Department, the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps Superintendent of Parks & Rec Bill Garrison and my wonderful office staff, Maddi and Victoria to be exact, for all the hard work and planning, and clean up that went into this (no easy task, I will tell you!) We are already planning a meeting to discuss how we can do even better in 2019!

Supervisor's Update- June 29th, 2018

There is no question about it-- we are surfing a heat wave this week! But we have a plan-- it's always cooler by the water, and tonight, Out After Curfew will hit the stage at Engel Park for a night of live music as part of our summer concert series. Join us for some classic rock covers and a picnic by the Hudson-- bring your own or visit the Gyro Uno Food Truck for dinner, and get ready for what promises to be an amazing sunset.

While we got started a little early this year, the usual kickoff for the Ossining Waterfront Concert Series is the Independence Day Fireworks Celebration, which is coming up this Tuesday, July 3rd. Our staff in both the Town and Village have been hard at work making preparations for what is sure to be a memorable night-- The Jon Bates Band will start the rock at 7:30PM and at 9:15PM, the fireworks will begin.

If you're anything like us, you will get there nice and early and plan to stay late, and you will be in good company-- food trucks and vendors from Ossining will be there to keep you fed and happy, including our friends Gyro Uno, Good Choice Kitchen, Lonnie's Fish and Chips,  The Blue Pig, Eliza's Ice Cream Truck, Hudson Corn & Lemonade, Kona Ice Truck, Frites of NY, and our buds (and newly-named "Best of Westchester" winners) Abeetz Food Truck! Gullotta House will also be on site selling cotton candy, with proceeds going back to families struggling right in our own community, and a volunteer for Maria Fareri Children's Hospital will be selling glow sticks to benefit children with asthma. It's going to be a great night in Ossining celebating our hard-fought freedoms together. I hope you plan to join us!

Supervisor's Update- June 22nd, 2018

Whatcha doin tonight? At 7PM tonight, we are kicking off our 2018 Summer Concert Series with Roadhouse Roosters, so come celebrate the start of summer with some funky tunes and a picnic on the Hudson River.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a picnic dinner, or plan to order Mediterranean delights from the Gyro Uno food truck. It's looking a little cloudy, but it should be a dry night here in Ossining, so I look forward to rocking out with the Roosters and with you!

If you don't get enough to eat at the concert, consider popping up the hill to 6 Degrees of Separation and testing out their new menu-- word on the street is there is a new chef, and he may look a little familiar if you're used to dining out around Ossining!

As part of the Summer Concert Series, we will hold a concert every Friday night through Labor Day Weekend (with the exception of Friday, August 3rd-- that concert will be moved to Thursday, August 2nd), with a wide variety of music styles that will engage the whole family. Additionally, the Independence Day Fireworks will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd-- the Jon Bates Band will join us at 7:30PM before the fireworks get started at around 9:15PM. Come early to get a good spot, and plan to enjoy food from one of the many food trucks and purveyors including some of the old faves.

Supervisor's Update- June 15th, 2018

If you are reading this on Friday night-- take note! Gullotta House is hosting Family Fun Night down at Louis Engel Park tonight between 6PM and 8:30PM-- procees to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you leave soon, you will still have time to catch one of Ossining's legendary sunsets over the Hudson, too.

Also tonight-- bring the kids to the Joseph G. Caputo Recreation Center at 95 Broadway for a free screening of Disney's "Moana" starting at 6:30PM-- chips and drinks will be provided. This is a family friendly event, but best for kids between Kindergarten and 4th Grade.
