Please remember that all comments related to the Public Hearing on the proposed 17/20 Annexation must be submitted to the Village of Briarcliff Manor and the Town of Ossining by January 15th, 2014.
The Village of Briarcliff Manor and the Town of Ossining have 90 days from the date of the public hearing (December 12th, 2013) to make a determination as to whether this action would be in the best interest of all the residents of the Town of Ossining (Unincorporated Area, Villages of Briarcliff Manor and Ossining). The Town will continue to do research on the proposed annexation and discuss it as a Board. In order to give the residents the opportunity to ask questions and to receive answers, we will be discussing this with the public at the Town Hall Meeting on January 21, 2014. We may not have all the answers at the meeting, but we will be sending out Supervisor Updates and posting the information on our web page.
As a courtesy, we have invited the Briarcliff Manor Board to participate in the January 21, 2014 meeting. Each Board has the responsibility to research and investigate this issue on their own after the Public Hearing, so Briarcliff Manor may have their own action plan to accomplish this goal. On Saturday January 4th, 2014 at approximately 4:30 PM, I received a call from the Ossining Fire Department, who shared with me that the Briarcliff Fire Department (with whom we have an IMA with Briarcliff Manor for this area) had units at 507 North State Road after the County Police had observed water coming out of the building. I got the keys for the building and rushed over. The Fire Department had gained access to the building and was in the process of turning off the water. After we walked the building to survey the damage, it was determined that the water would be turned off at the street until the plumbers had the opportunity to make sure the boiler would remain on, and they could be confident that they could check the heating pipes and ensure proper heating of the building.
I called the insurance agent from the parking lot and, upon returning home, called ServPro (a water/fire remediation company) to get the water out of the building ASAP. I met the team from ServPro at the building at 9:30 AM on Sunday, where they drained the building of the remaining water and set up systems to dry the building, including dehumidifiers. We believed this was essential because of the forecast of VERY cold weather (which turned out to be extremely accurate). We have the situation under control, but want to take a moment to thank the exceptional groups that reacted so quickly and/or continue to be part of the restoration:
The sale of the “old Police Station” is progressing and the closing is projected for the end of January ,an accomplishment of which we are extremely proud. It took longer than anyone anticipated, but in this age of funding, we had to be patient and wait for the process to work itself out. There have been, and continue to be, “nay sayers” who were pessimistic from the start, but we kept in constant contact with future buyer, and together we will accomplish the goals of getting the building on the tax rolls, bringing more business to the North State Road (Including employees who will patronize the restaurants and shops), and paying down the debt of the Unincorporated Area.
