We have a very exciting evening ahead of us! The Town will be concluding our 2018 Summer Concert Series with a DJ Dance Party at the Ossining Waterfront. Ossining's own DJCatch1 will be spinning some tunes for us on this cooler (and thank goodness, drier) rescheduled date. The dance party will begin at 6:30PM and go until about 8:30PM, so be sure to join us down at Engel Park. We may have some surprises in store, so keep your eyes peeled! Also, (although you will probably not be sitting down much), we have two new food trucks coming to Ossining today, in case you'd like to grab dinner. Sloppie Joe's and Spicy Restaurant (famous for their green-sauced wings) will be there to serve you and give you energy enough to dance the night away!

We will also be hosting a very special Mind, Body. Spirit Ossining event at 5:15PM-- Rebel Yoga Studios founder Tasia Sabatino will be guiding her signature "Rebel Flow" right at Engel Park. Be sure to bring your own mat and water for this funky Vinyasa-style yoga class, and this one's on us!

This was the first week of school and it was great to see so many smiling faces getting on to buses and walking to school! Please be mindful that your commute may take a bit longer now that there are buses back on the streets and leave yourself a little extra time to get across Town. Whether or not you have a student in the District, you'll be excited to see the Back to School video they put together for this year-- check out  "This is Me"  on Youtube! Also, if you happen to see Superintendent Ray Sanchez in your travels, be sure to give him a high 5, because he is now “Dr.” Sanchez having successfully defended his dissertation.  Way to go!

A bit of bad news-- the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce's Lobsterfest has been cancelled. However, there is plenty to do around Ossining all weekend-- be sure to catch some of the local events (many of them free) happening around Town. Hope to see you all at the Ossining Matters 5k Run/2 Mile Walk tomorrow starting at 9am.  Check in starts at 7:30 at the community center.  (Not signed up for the race yet? Visit www.ossiningmatters.org-- proceeds go to benefit additional programs in the schools which the school budget doesn’t cover.)

One that you will absolutely not want to miss-- the Annual Corn Roast at the Ossining Down to Earth Farmer's Market will take place between 10AM and 12PM.

Green Ossining will also be at the Market to teach you how to turn an old tee shirt into a reusable tote bag (BYOT-Shirt), but they also have another cool event in store. Did you know that tomorrow is Climate Action Day? Considering participating in Bike Ossining! with Green Ossining and use your 2 wheels instead of 4 to run your errands this weekend. Visit Green Ossining's table at the Market to demo some "pedal assist" bicycles from Yorktown Cycles that will help you traverse Ossining's hills-- cyclists are welcome to join for a ride around town, starting at around 11AM. Also tomorrow, the Sing Sing Kill Brewery will unveil their new bike rack – “Ride in, Rack up and Refresh” is their slogan! It may not be too late to sign up for the Ossining Matters 5K/2M race-- if you join the SSKB Run/Walk Team and wear their t-shirt while you run/walk, they will pay for your registration fee (email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to learn more). And to sweeten the deal? If you bring your race placard to the Brewery after the race, you will be treated to a free draft beer. Sounds pretty refreshing to me!

Later on in the day, be sure to stop by Briarcliff's Community Day 2018. They have something for everyone!

On Sunday, September 9th, check out one of your last chances this year to take a guided walking tour of the historic Sparta neighborhood. Meet at The Jug Tavern at 1PM to watch "The Battle for Sparta" before Dr. Alan Stahl, neighborhood resident and chair of the Village of Ossining Historic Presevrarion Commission, guides you through Sparta and lets you in on some secret local knowledge. This tour is free but space is limited-- save your spot by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Westchester Collaborative Theater will be holding their Revel on the River Fall Fundraiser at the Shattemuc Yacht Club on September 22nd. Come on down for a night of music, dancing, live theater, an open bar, silent and live auctions, and (get this!) a gourmet taco bar. Hello. Come celebrate the first day of Fall while supporting local art and theater here in Ossining. Grab your tickets here.

Finally, I learned this week about a special event coming to Westchester in October. World-renowned author Alice Walker will be coming to New Rocelle High School on October 10th to speak about her upcoming poetry collection. Proceeds from the event will go to supporting WEDC, Women's Enterprise Development Center. I am looking very much forward to this event and hope to see you there for an enjoyable evening supporting a great local cause.

Another exciting October event? The Crossover Yoga Project will be holding their annual fundraiser at our very own Cedar Lane Arts Center on October 12th. Be a part of celebrating 3 years of empowering over 2500 at-risk girls in detention centers, prisons and residential treatment centers throughout Westchester through trauma informed yoga, mindfulness and creative art therapy. Learn more and get your tickets  here

The Town Board will be meeting on WEDNESDAY this coming week (September 12th) at the Courthouse on Spring Street. I hope that you will join for the continuation of three public hearings on our local laws, including legislation on  pdf Leaf Blowers (30 KB) , pdf Accessory Apartments (148 KB) , and  pdf Solar Codes (244 KB) . Wishing a very happy and sweet new year to all who celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Shana Tovah.

I also hope to see many of you at the 9-11 Ceremony when we remember that tragic day 17 years ago.  Please join us at the Ossining Waterfront where the Ossining Fire Department annually organizes our three municipality remembrance, starting at 7pm at Louis Engel Park.
