In the Supervisor’s Update published Friday afternoon, we shared an announcement from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) that the DEC had contracted with a vendor to apply aquatic herbicide to the Croton River to stop the spread of hydrilla verticillata, an invasive species, and that the herbicide application would take place on Tuesday, August 30th and Wednesday, August 31st.
Yesterday, we were informed by the DEC that this herbicide application will not be taking place. The water restrictions for the Croton River have been lifted. Please see the letter below for more information. If you would like to learn more about hydrilla verticillata, please visit this link.
