Supervisor's Update- April 13th, 2018

70 degrees, that's better! Do you ever notice how much more awake everyone feels on days like this? OK-- that may also be because it's a Friday, and there is a lot going on in Ossining this weekend, starting with a ton of live music tonight! If you plan to stay in Town, Joe Krzyzewski will be playing live at First Village Coffee on Main Street between 7PM and 8:30PM. You could also take a quick trip up Route 9 and check out Ossining resident Mark Fineberg performing with The Hit Men at the Paramount Theater tonight at 8PM-- there is still time to get tickets!

We have an awful lot happening in Ossining this weekend, but I'll get back to that shortly. Here's a little info on what we've been up to this week.

On Monday, I attended a small celebration at the new site of Neighbors Link in Ossining. We are so excited to have this organization sited here so they can continue to provide excellent support programs for our community, from legal support, to making sure protections are in place for safe and fair working conditions and housing, language support, parenting and more, they offer so much. They have been partnering with local churches, the school district, county, Village and Town and we hope this new space will ensure they have even more of an opportunity to help those in our community who need them.

Special News from Ossining Town Supervisor Dana Levenberg

If you're used to my Friday updates, you'll know it's a bit unusual for us to send something like this out on a Monday, but we were recently informed about a few upcoming events that you won't want to miss!

In addition, I also learned from one of my fellow Supervisors that folks with Cablevision/ Optimum who lost service during the recent storms may be eligible for a bill credit, depending on how long your service was out. Time periods lasting more than 4 hours would qualify. You need to contact them in order to be verified for this credit-- call them at (718) 860-3513, or live chat here. You will need to provide your home address and what dates you were without service-- even though they likely have this information already, you will not be issued a credit without asking for it and providing the proper information about your outage. The sooner you can make contact on this, the better the chance you will receive the credit you are due.

Supervisor's Update - March 30th, 2018

Happy Friday, everyone!

This week marks important holidays for many of us, with Passover beginning tonight and Easter this Sunday-- Town offices will be closing at 12 Noon in observance. Today is also Good Friday, the pinnacle of the religious year for Christians around the world.  Here in Ossining, St. Ann's Church will hold its annual Stations of the Cross procession.  Each year, St. Ann's parishioners showcase their strong faith and cultural diversity along Ossining's streets with this multi-lingual procession.  This year, the Stations of the Cross will follow the same route as last year, beginning at St. Ann's on Eastern Avenue at 6PM.  The procession will continue up Eastern Avenue, turning on Churchill Street, Ellis Place, and Wolden Avenue.  After making a stop on Wolden in front of Ossining High School, the procession will turn onto Maurice Avenue for another stop along Maurice Avenue, then crossing Route 9 to James Street, turning on Edward Street and stopping once more at Nelson Sitting Park.  Then, the procession will travel along Spring Street to Market Square, making one last stop, before crossing Route 9 at Ellis Place to end back at St. Ann's around 8PM.  As you travel around Ossining tonight, please be mindful of those participating in the procession, and follow the instructions of the Ossining Police Department, who have become experts at moving hundreds of people through the streets of Ossining each Good Friday!

Supervisor's Update- April 6th, 2018

Could you believe we had even more snow today? Hopefully we've seen the last of the white stuff for this season and our weather patterns will follow us into Spring-- we've been here a while already! That wind yesterday also set us back a little bit-- Suzie Ross of Green Ossining was so very proud of our new banner (see below)-- but just hours after being placed on the 200 Main Street bank building, the wind literally ripped it down.

The banner was rushed to SBS on North State Road for emergency surgery. Don't worry, Suzie-- we are sure you will get it back looking like new in no time!

Supervisor's Update- March 23rd, 2018

The sun is shining and it seems like Spring may be here to stay! How are you celebrating slipping into Spring? If you are in search of something to do on this beautiful evening in Ossining, you have no shortage of options. Ossining High School Drama will continue its run with night two of "Bring it On, The Musical"-- admission is free but donations are always appreciated!

The Town and Village of Ossining are co-sponsoring the "March for Our Lives", organized by Ossining High School's Junior States of America (JSA), scheduled to take place at Louis Engel Park tomorrow (Saturday) beginning at 12 Noon. Following the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida, groups of young people nationwide have organized to stand up against gun violence. Similar marches will be happening all around our nation, and we are so pleased to be able to offer people a safe place to express themselves about this very timely issue right here in Ossining. I do hope that you will join us at the park for this unifying event and lend your voice to this important issue-- if you decide to join, please use the hashtags #marchforourlives and #m4olossiningny when posting from the event on your Instagram, Facebook and all other social media.
