Update on Pre-Payment of 2018 Property Taxes

As many of you are aware, around 4:30PM on Friday, December 22nd, Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order which enables municipalities to accept partial payments of 2018 taxes in order to brace for changes that will result from the SALT legislation at the federal level. Over the weekend, we were working hard to identify the best way to implement a strategy to provide this benefit to Town taxpayers.

pdf Please see the update we are releasing today regarding the payment of 2018 taxes. (46 KB) Earlier today, I signed the 2018 Town tax warrant (subject to correction). In addition, as per the process prescribed in the Executive Order, the Town Board will pass a resolution at this evening's meeting to allow the Town to accept the aforementioned payments.

As a reminder, the Village of Ossining issued their warrant last week, enabling Village of Ossining taxpayers to pay their 2018 Village taxes in 2017.

Although the Town and Village of Ossining are offering this accomodation in accordance with the Executive Order, we urge you to contact your tax advisor regarding the potential deductability of such payments.

We will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Town of Ossining Board Names Jackie Shaw to Town Council for 2018

Town of Ossining Board Names Jackie Shaw to Town Council for 2018

Ms. Shaw will serve one year of the term vacated by Kim Jeffrey

The Town Board of the Town of Ossining announced last night at their Town Hall meeting that they have unanimously selected Jackie G. Shaw of 10 Tappan Terrace, Briarcliff Manor, to serve year one of the unexpired term of Town Councilwoman Kim Jeffrey.

The Town Board requested applications for the position and received letters of intent from 14 eligible candidates, all of whom they interviewed.

“We are so excited that Jackie stepped up to apply for the open seat on the Town Board,” said Town Supervisor Dana Levenberg.  “We had many wonderful candidates and it was certainly a tough decision, however we felt that Jackie had the right mix of community involvement, management and business experience. We were also impressed by her work on boards (particularly on one so closely tied to the Town’s own, with her work on the Recreation Advisory Board), that would lend itself perfectly to our mission.  An added bonus is that Jackie lives in the Unincorporated Town for which this board serves as the local governing body. Since Jackie took an interest in this position, she has attended all Town Board meetings and has been proactive in spending time familiarizing herself with some of the issues facing the Town. We are confident that she will be an excellent addition to our board and a wonderful community advocate.”

Ms. Shaw has an MBA from Boston University Graduate School of Management with a concentration in Health Care management, as well as a BA from the College of William and Mary and a certificate in interior decorating from Parsons School of Design.  She worked for Merck & Co. as Senior Manager for Health & Utilization Management and for Koren Rogers Associates doing research and analysis, as well as managing administrative staff. After leaving the industry to start a family, she returned to the workforce as an entrepreneur, starting up an interior decorating firm which she ran in partnership with her mother for just under 10 years. She has been an active volunteer, representing the Town on the Recreation Advisory Board as vice chair from 2006-present and was recently selected to take over as chair of that board. She also has been serving on the Ossining School District Equity Task Force since 2006 and was selected to participate on the Ossining School District Superintendent Search Committee in 2013.

“I am honored to be the Town Board appointee for the council member position,” said Ms. Shaw. “I am excited about the opportunity to use my knowledge and experience gained from my work on the Recreation Advisory Board and the Equity Task Force in a new capacity.  I look forward to learning from and working with the Town Board to continue the great work they have been doing.”

The Town Board intends to vote on Ms. Shaw’s appointment at its December 26th meeting at 7:30 PM at the Birdsall-Fagan Courthouse, 86-88 Spring Street, Ossining.

In early November shortly after the election, then-Councilwoman Kim Jeffrey announced her decision to accept an offer for a position with the Westchester County District Attorney’s office which would preclude her from being permitted to serve as an elected official.  Ms. Jeffrey stepped down from her position as of December 1, 2017, and also indicated her need to decline to begin her newly elected term, scheduled to begin January 1, 2018.

The Ossining Town Board chose to leave the remainder of Councilwoman Jeffrey’s term in 2017 unfilled and to appoint a person into the seat for one year of the four year term. A special election will be held in November of 2018 to elect a candidate to fill the remaining three years of the term left open by Councilwoman Jeffrey’s departure.

The Town is Seeking Applications to Serve on our Volunteer Boards!

It's going to be a new year, and that means the Town will be interviewing for terms that have expired on our volunteer boards. While all of our incumbents have expressed a desire to continue serving in these roles, we believe it is prudent to consider new faces too-- are you interested?

If you wish to apply to sit on the Town Planning Board, the Town Zoning Board, or the Town's Environmental Advisory Committee, you must be a resident of the Unincorporated Town. Interested in the Board of Ethics or the Board of Assessment Review? You can live anywhere within the Town of Ossining.

In addition, we are looking to fill a vacancy on the Recreation Advisory Board, a committee comprised of Town of Ossining, Village of Ossining, and Village of Briarcliff Manor residents. We have room for one member from the Unincorporated Town, so please feel very free to apply for that role as well.

If you have an interest in any of the above roles and would like more information, please contact Maddi Zachacz in the Supervisor's Office at This email address is being protected from spambots. All those looking to apply should submit a letter of interest and a resume to Maddi at the email address above, or in person at 16 Croton Avenue, before close of business on Tuesday, December 26th.
