Starting around rush hour this evening, we are expecting between two and three inches of rain and strong winds, as well as coastal flooding, as a result of an incoming Nor'easter. Due to the fact that most of the leaves have not yet fallen, we are at higher risk for fallen limbs and power outages than during other times of the year. Our Highway and Parks staff, as well as our first responders, are keeping an eye on the weather and preparing their trucks and equipment in case the predictions materialize.

Want to help them? Please plan to stay off the roads throughout this evening-- wet leaves make for bad driving conditions. Also, be sure to follow usual storm protocol-- charge up your devices, make sure you have a full tank of gas, and if you haven't yet, download the Con Ed app on your Smartphone (you will need to provide your account information to set it up, so better now than when the lights have already gone out-- no one enjoys looking through a pile of bills, but especially not in the dark.) You will be able to report downed wires or outages right through the app, as well as check on service restorations if you do experience an outage. You can also call 1-800-75 CON ED to make those reports.

Stay home, grab a good book, and hunker down-- we are in for a wet one tonight!
