Last night, we handed out these flyers at the Town Board Meeting to give our residents some more information about the revaluation process. In case you missed it, you can find both documents here.

The phone lines in our office have been busy with lots of questions about the mailers from ConEd Solutions that many of you received this week. As many of you know, the Community Choice Aggregation program was discussed in both the Town and Village of Ossining for some time as a way to offer our residents a less expensive (and greener) electricity supply. The low bidder for this program was ConEd Solutions. They were able to provide a per kilowatt hour price that was lower than the average cost of that power in 2015. While they will technically provide power to you, the bill will still come from Con Edison. That is unless at one point, you elected to leave Con Edison and be serviced by what’s called an ESCO (Energy Service Company)-- if you have an ESCO but want to join take advantage of the buying power of CCA, you need to contact your ESCO and find out how to cancel your contract with them. Still have questions? The website for the CCA has a comprehensive FAQ section, which will help you navigate your choices in this process.
We have also gotten some phone calls from residents about their meetings with Tyler Technologies about the new value assigned to their properties. Originally, the last day to schedule such an appointment was today (April 8th), but Tyler has agreed to gives folks one more week to get a date on the books, and the new deadline to schedule an appointment is April 15th. To be clear, this is the last date you can call to schedule-- appointments will go into early May. The number to call is 800-273-8605.
We also know there are still some questions about the process in general. To that end, we have asked Fernando Gonzalez, our Town Assessor, along with John Wolham from the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services, representatives from Tyler Technologies, and representatives from Michael Haberman Associates (the independent monitor overseeing Tyler’s work), to present at our Town Hall Meeting on April 19th at the Ossining Public Library and to answer many of the questions we have been receiving in the last couple of weeks.
This coming Tuesday’s Town Board Meeting (April 12th) is a regular meeting. As such, we will have time for residents to ask questions as part of the meeting. This meeting, just like all Legislative Sessions, will take place on Tuesday evening at 7:30PM in the Courtroom at 86-88 Spring Street. The Town Board will take in all your questions at this time—we will take note of all questions and share them with the various entities working on this project (Assessor, Tyler, Haberman and ORPTS) so that they can prepare to address your concerns on April 19th at the Town Hall Meeting.
If you do not plan to attend the Town Board meeting this Tuesday, please consider attending the Ossining Public Library Community Meeting that night. The Library is undergoing a Long-Range Planning process, and they need your input. What makes Ossining great? Which of those features are reflected in our library, and what isn’t and should be? How does your dream library look and work? The meeting starts at 7PM in the Budarz Theater at 53 Croton Avenue.
As long as you’re in the mood to give input, please also consider filling out the Town Parks Survey. It shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes to complete, and all valid entries (you must live in Ossining to participate) will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card to either The Boathouse or Pine & Oak. We are fortunate in Ossining to have an extensive system of parks, and we are always looking to improve the services we offer at them. Does Ryder Park need a bocce court? Does Louis Engel Park need adult fitness equipment? Does Cedar Lane Park need a cat park? Let us know what you think by May 2nd, and dinner could be on us. We have gotten some great feedback so far, thanks to everyone who participated!
Finally, the Village of Ossining has shared the following invitation for the Sing Sing Kill Greenway Ribbon Cutting next week-- I hope you will join us for this exciting occasion!
Even though we are more than ready for Spring, the weather is not cooperating. The forecasters are predicting 2-3 inches of wet snow on Saturday, which means changing some of our outdoor plans for tomorrow.
The Jesse Collyer Youth Sports Baseball and Softball parade, originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed. Please come out and support the teams NEXT Saturday (4/16), same time, same place, when the weather will hopefully be much warmer. That same day, between 11AM and 4PM, Green Ossining will be hosting our 6th Annual Earth Day Celebration at Louis Engel Park—join us for some great music, delicious food, and earth-friendly vendors on the 16th.
Also, tomorrow’s Gullotta House Zumba fundraiser that was scheduled for Engel Park will be headed indoors. The event is still this Saturday (tomorrow) from 3:30PM until 8PM, but will be held at Studio95 at 95 Main Street. Maybe the storm will pass us by, but even if not, the Ossining Arts Mixer Featuring The Soul Projekt is still on for 7:30PM, and dancing is a great way to warm up in chilly weather!
