"Your Cop" Extended Neighborhoods Officer Assignments:
Residents of the Unincorporated Area of the Town of Ossining have been assigned their own patrol officer. Each patrol officer is assigned to one of nine extended neighborhoods of the Town, neighborhoods consisting of up to 230 households. "Your Cop" acts as a contact point or liaison for the residents in a particular neighborhood.
“Your Cop” is responsible for traditional police duties in his or her extended neighborhood as well as addressing quality-of-life issues, such as malfunctioning street lights, trees needing trimming, streets requiring repair, condition, missing or damaged signage, and any other public safety concerns.
It should be noted that residents need not avail themselves of “Your Cop” services if they do not wish to. Each extended neighborhood officer will work as a proactive problem solver. “Your Cop” may also conduct home security surveys designed to help residents’ harden their homes against burglary. “Your Cop” can attend and/or organize neighborhood meetings to address crime prevention issues. In emergency situations, of course, Police Headquarters should be contacted directly.
The “Your Cop” Program has a component for commercial interests in the Town of Ossining, too. Each uniformed patrol sergeant will be assigned a series of businesses. The sergeants will visit each business in their extended neighborhood on a frequent basis to update alarm information and emergency night contacts. The sergeants will also meet regularly with business owners to discuss problems and provide crime prevention information on shoplifting, burglaries, robberies, and fraud.
