WHAT IS THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN?

   The Plan will be a policy document which outlines a vision for the future of the Unincorporated Town of Ossining. The Plan will focus on the current and long-range protection, enhancement, growth and development of the community.

WHAT IS THE PUBLIC'S ROLE IN THE PREPARATION OF THE PLAN?

   The public's role is to provide input to the Town Board and the Comprehensive Plan Committee through meetings, discussions, and a public opinion survey.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PLAN?

   The Plan is intended to be a guide for both public and private decision-makers regarding the future of Ossining. The Plan will include a variety of issues and subject matters, a range of strategies for implementing the objectives and recommendations, and an overall vision for the Town's future. In addition, the Plan will identify conceptual changes to the Zoning Law and other local regulations.

WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF THE PLAN?

   The Plan will address demographics; residential, commercial, office and industrial development; parks/recreation; public facilities and utilities; transportation, traffic circulation, parking and pedestrian network; appearance and vitality of the residential and business districts; and environmental protection. It will present planning analysis, goals, objectives and implementation strategies.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN COMMITTEE?

   The Comprehensive Plan Committee and other Town representatives are actively involved with the project consultants in formulating drafts of each Plan component. The Committee includes representatives from the Town Board, Planning Board, Zoning Board, Environmental Advisory Committee, Town Assessor, Budget Officer, Businesses and Residents.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE TOWN BOARD?

   According to Section 272-a of Town Law, the Town Board has the authority to adopt a Comprehensive Plan. The legislation also specifies the inter-relationship between a Comprehensive Plan and other land use regulations. Ossining's Comprehensive Plan is a means to promote the health, safety and general welfare of its residents.
