Westchester Arts Council Municipal Challenge Grant
Commissioned by The Town of Ossining,
Croton/Cortlandt Center for the Arts, Administering Organization
“This project started as a commission for a Hudson River painting. I wanted to create a work which would have deep meaning for the residents of the Town, and met with members of the Town Board to discuss how I could better serve the Town with this project.
The work is a triptych: each panel represents one of the three parts of the Town. It is meant to be a ‘visual’ of what the Town of Ossining is, the three parts.
Rather than emphasizing the past, the focus became what we have now: this is your Town. The parks became the theme. The Town of Ossining has 134 acres of parkland. They are an “oasis” for everyone regardless of income, social standing, or background. I endeavored to portray the beautiful vistas of the parks, or residents enjoying their parks.
The arch motif alludes to the Aqueduct and double arch in the Village of Ossining. I am also using the arch as a symbol of strength, linking the three parts of the Town, as the arch is a strong architectural engineering element. The faux stone represents Ossining granite, again, another reference to strength.”
