All residents are encouraged to attend the second annual Candlelight Vigil sponsored by the Ossining/Briarcliff Partnership for Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention. The vigil will be on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 5:30pm at Market Square in downtown Ossining (corner of Main and Spring streets). Reflection and Prayer - Rev. Lynda Clemens Grettings by ...
Remembering those who died because of domestic violence, celebrating those who survive, and connecting those who work together to end violence. Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the "Day of Unity" in October 1981 conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The intent was to connect advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children. In October 1987, the first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed. In 1989 the U.S. Congress passed Public Law 101-112 designating October of that year as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Such legislation has passed every year since. Let's break the silence – for you or someone you know.
