E.M.A.S. - E-Mail Alert System

What is E.M.A.S.?
Everyday, more homes and businesses are using e-mail. E.M.A.S. uses this new communication tool to deliver information directly to the public from the police department. It allows the public to participate in the process of community policing by being informed of events occurring in their neighborhoods. It also allows the public to communicate directly back to the police.

Why is E.M.A.S. important?
Currently, the public is dependent on the newspaper media to receive information about area criminal activity. In many cases it can take a week for this information to be disseminated by the press. Often, this is too late. When a town or area is subjected to criminal activity, the faster the police can disseminate the information to the public, the better chance the public can be of assistance. Often, individuals are not aware that they witnessed criminal activity.

Any property owner, resident, second homeowner, or business can receive E.M.A.S. Anyone interested in community safety is welcome. This is a FREE service. There is no special hardware or software needed. All you need is your standard e-mail address.

What information will I receive?
There are three basic types of E.M.A.S. messages:

  • Alerts
    • Information about current criminal activity with enough appropriate detail to help develop leads in a case. Police may disseminate information as to general location of criminal activity, any vehicles they may be looking for or description of suspects.
  • Follow-Ups
    • Follow-up information, when appropriate, on the disposition of incidents reported earlier, including information on any arrests or other new appropriate details.
  • Messages
    • Information on meetings, events or classes related to community safety, such as Homeowner Association meetings or law changes that affect local businesses.
