The Town of Ossining Police Department Crime Prevention Program. This community service focuses on police intervention to prevent criminal activity.

Criminal activity is a fact of life. You cannot be responsible for another person's decision to commit a crime, but you can take the necessary steps to prevent a crime from happening to you, your family, or your community.

Crime prevention is an important police service that has, with the help of the TOPD, effectively lowered the incidence of criminal activity in the community. Below is a description of programs, free of charge, available to residents and organizations that the Town of Ossining Police Department serves and protects.

  • Residential and Commercial Site Survey: Officers will conduct a basic survey of your residence or commercial building and make recommendations to make your site safer. You will receive a confidential site survey report shortly thereafter. Surveys are completed by appointment.
  • Operation ID: Officers will mark and videotape important property. This will assist police in recovering your property if it is lost or stolen.
  • Neighborhood Watch Crime Stopper Program: Officers will assist in the development and training of specified programs in which neighborhood residents can be the eyes and ears of the police. Registered residents will receive proper training and be given a crime stopper identification number to be used when reporting.
  • Bicycle Registration: Parents complete a bicycle registration form for any child. The registration will have all pertinent information in case the bicycle is lost or stolen.
  • Educational Seminars: Officers are available to speak to groups on crime prevention topics for children, families, adults, elderly, organizations, and the community.
  • Fingerprinting Program for Children: Officers will fingerprint children so parents will have positive identification in case that child is missing. This service is offered at group functions or by individual appointment.
