Supervisor’s Weekly Update

Happy Arbor day!

Today is the day that we set aside in our calendars to appreciate all that trees do for us. From providing clean air, habitat for countless birds, animals and insect pollinators, being an invaluable food source, preventing soil erosion, keeping us cool with shade in the summer and dropping the leaves to allow the sun to warm our homes in the winter and so much more, trees help improve our lives every day.

Please visit our Town Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) web page for information on native trees and plants that support the wildlife in our area as well as a host of other helpful information.

Today the Town and Village of Ossining, along with the Ossining School District celebrated Arbor Day by planting five native trees.

One of the trees planted was dedicated as a living tribute to Reginald Lafayette. Reggie was a longtime Chairman of the Westchester County Democratic Committee Reggie and was the Democratic Commissioner of the Westchester Board of Elections. He was well known for encouraging and supporting women and minorities to run for political offices throughout the County, making sure that the legislative bodies reflected the actual demographics of the communities. His smiling face and welcoming attitude as I ran for my first office will never be forgotten.
